Appearance
Heartwood is brown when freshly cut, quickly changing to a purple colour. by its name, Purpleheart is most recognized for its distinctive heartwood colour, which ranges from a bright violet to a deep purple, turning dark brown over time with exposure to UV light. The sapwood contrasts sharply with a cream or yellowish grey colour.
Properties
Purpleheart is a dense, extremely strong wood with high durability and resistance to decay and insect attacks. Its hardness can make it challenging to work with, but it results in excellent durability for finished projects
Despite its hardness, Purpleheart works relatively well with both hand and power tools, but sharp tools are a must due to its density. It also glues and finishes well.
